Abstract: The water resources in the southern mountainous area of Naiman Banner, Inner Mongolia, are very scarce and unevenly distributed in time and space. Although its topography is complex, it occupies most of the cultivated land in the whole Banner. The monsoon and drought climate has intensified, causing the local agriculture to “rely on the weather for food for nine years”. The local water conservancy workers and the masses of the people have used many water resources development and utilization technologies in their years of practice and exploration. Through the elaboration and analysis of four classic technologies, such as small (2) type reservoirs and pond projects, subsurface flow interception projects, radial large-mouth wells, and mobile pumping stations, the paper demonstrates their economic and social benefits, which can effectively solve the practical difficulties of local agricultural water shortage, Alleviating and reversing the adverse situation of “nine droughts in ten years, relying on the weather” is an agricultural drought relief measure with strong vitality, which has a strong recommendation significance for agricultural irrigation in other similar regions in China, and is worthy of serious summary and continuous promotion and application.
